I've never bought a "betta in a cup," before. How do you handle acclimation -- just float the cup in the tank?

I put them into a bigger cup, generally a red solo cup, and change 10% of the water in the cup with water for my tank, I do this 10 times. so the first time would be remove 10% of the original water and add 10% of my tank water and increase each time till I'm at a 100% change.
