Many aquarists think that if they use expensive light bulbs, they would have less algae. At the same time they use fertile soil to help the plants grow better, and this way they think they would have less problems in the aquarium. But things are not exactly this way.
I think that the balance between Co2 , light and fertilizers is very important. It is good to have quality light and fertilized substrate, but it is very important to pay attention to that balance, otherwise algae will appear.
I use bulbs of only 5$ a piece and fertilizer free substrate (a simple river gravel) but I pay attention to the balance.
Maybe this has been already discussed on this forum, but I just wanted to express my opinion.
