You didn't mention dwarf puffers, another member did. I was correcting false information, whether it came from you or someone else. The last thing you want is to start back out in the hobby with misinformation.

Although much of what I've learned about this hobby has come from books and magazine articles, a great portion of my knowledge has come from experienced forum members on here. You will learn in time which individuals are trusted and knowledgeable after following advanced, inventive projects they document on this site, noting consistencies when comparing their advice to well reputed publications, and by simply implementing their suggestions and seeing that they work.

As for selling fish to a pet store, you may be able to find a place that is willing, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you, and that's all I meant before.
well i totally missed the bit about dwarf puffers! haha!

and thank you for your information, i greatly appreciate it!

Ghost shrimp don't eat fecal matter. Don't count on them to clean up after your fish. You'll be lucky if you get ghost shrimp that are freshwater and not brackish. There are several species of shrimp that are commonly called ghost shrimp which are clear and transparent in appearance, but grow to different sizes and require different water specifications. They're usually mixed up together and different wholesalers sell different species, so you're never quite sure what you're getting.
Although the shrimp may not eat waste they eat everything else. I bought 20 for my 10 gallon from pet supermarket for $4, and they actually gave me 40+ lol. They survived well in my overstocked tank and really kept it clean. I fed them very little so they would scavenge for food my fish missed, and because they were so cheap and just ate scraps I never paid attention to caring for them. I was still shocked when I did a count and found that my 40+ shrimp had dropped to 20- in 5 months without me seeing a single dead shrimp.

So they may not be the best cleaners but they do help a lot for low budget or low tech tanks. Right now I am using them to cycle my 2.5 desk tank.

I don't mean to counter the post- just adding personal experience. I do agree that the shrimp you get are different and may not survive. The are also aggressive and can kill things smaller than them- especially other shrimp.

I would look into Shelldwellers (N. occelatus) or Peacock Gudgeons (T. occelicauda) and creating a species tank for them. You could probably have a pair of shelldwellers along with babies and see from there (culling or removing older babies might be necessary). For the Peacock Gudgeons, 4 (2 pairs) would be nice with some surface dwelling fish.

instead of ghost shrimp since your water should be all good to go by now maybe do cherry shrimp? to give a little color and if you have smaller fish (which you will to fit in the 10gal) they should be fine and they are relatively inexpensive. A school of neon tetras would be cool, maybe some dwarf corries, (not a pro on these) dwarf hatchetfish for top dwelling (if its covered), or you could go cichlids but many cichlids will outgrow a 10gal. Also there are dwarf gouramis (powder blue is my avatar) but there are many varieties mostly a combo of blue and red. Smaller plecos should also work like albino BN they only get 4" or so... Im sure someone will correct me if im wrong but just some ideas
