I should probably mention that the creek from which the turtle came is not that wild. It passes through a moderatly upscale residential community with its own golf course and country club and there is a sewer treatment plant which discharges into the creek upstream from where the turtle was caught. The neighborhood is, in turn nessled in among a planned community with shopping centers, schools, other neighborhoods, for miles in all directions. Its actually an unincorporated suburban area outside of Houston. The creek, I'm sure, has probably been reconfigured and widened as a result of residential development.
