As far as an oscar lying on his/her side, that's pretty common. They're drama queens. If mine gets mad at me after a vigorous tank cleaning or re-arrange, he gets all dramatic flopped over somewhere on the bottom. Funny thing is, one eye will always be following me in the event I'm headed over to his food cupboard. He recovers miraculously then. His green severum tank mate is not such a pain.
