RO water can help keep the brown algae down bc your tap may have certain polloutants. I have been using tap lately and the brown algae is horrible. you can get a container for the ro for like 10? or was it 5. I think it is 5 gallons. It is HEAVY filled up. (to me; I'm 12)

Water changes

I have a 55 gal FOWLR tank with a sump and I change about 5 gal every 2 weeks. I buy RO water from Walmart or Petco at 8 to 33 cents a gal.
If you use distilled water make sure it is not condensed from copper.
You would also have to add essential minerals for distilled water to be safe.
Tap water however treated chemically can cause headaches in the future with phosphates and algae blooms.
I plan to purchase a RO/ DI unit in the future to just keep from running to the store for water. We also drink our purchased water as it is cheaper than buying individual water in bottles.
Hope this helps. :welcome:
