hey all,

i have a 50cm long sailfin pleco that i accquired recently. since i got him, he's become a lighter in colour. Is this a wierd skin problem or anything, or is it nothing to worry about?? also, i'd really like to know how to tell the difference in sex if any one knows. thanks alot.

ps. i might be selling my pleco so if anyone wants give me an offer.....

Sometimes when they're stressed or frightened their color pattern will lighten a lot. Assuming your water's OK, once he gets used to the new digs he should be fine.

Welcome to Aquaria Central! That is one huge pleco at 19 inches. What size tank is he in? I would hope a 125 at absolute minimum. I agree with what is the water quality? Plecs can be very moody so I'm sure if everything checks out he is just expierencing mood changes. Anyway, hope this helps and good luck.

yeah he is pretty huge. he's in a tank that's 4 foot x 3 foot x 2.5 foot. about 800L. the ph is about 7.2 and i don't know the hardness. the temp is about 24 degrees C. What temp do plecos like? cheers for all your help.
