I only keep 4 - 6 Melanotaenia Sp. in a 55. They are much happier when they can run long distance back and forth and up and down. And add strong current. My 55 has 3 powerheads pushing the water all over and my Turquoise go nuts in the currents. And feed your 'Bows often..they use up alot of energy in all that playfulness.

My juvenile ornates are like the sharks in my community tank. They are extremely fast and good hunters. They are always the first ones to the food and eat a ton.

Soon they will be going into a 72 gallon where I will have a total of 6 rainbows.

if you have your heart set on rainbows or related fish look into blue eyes. some of them can only live in brackish but alot of them can be kept in fresh. and they are smaller ranging from an inch to two inches instead of the six and seven inches some rainbows can get to
