Long story short- my local pet store advised me that I could keep a goldfish in a 10 gallon tank. I bought two fancy juveniles for my tank. Now, after reading a bit on the internet, I am aware that it was bad advice. I am considering either a larger tank or re-homing them. Will a 28 gallon bowfront be appropriate for a few years? This may be the maximum size tank that I can fit in my condo right now... but I will eventually move into a larger house with more space.

30 gallons would be the minimum. 55 gallons is even better. What strains are these fancy goldfish?
I think that they are fantails based on what the store said. But, I wouldn't be surprised if the store was wrong. Here's a picture:

I measured the space in my living room- I am constrained to something that is no longer than 28 inches. A 28 bowfront or a 30 tall would fit. The 30 long would be too big. Other options I'd be willing to consider are hexes or cubes that would be under 28 inches wide.
The 28 bowfront is tempting because I can get the whole set on sale for $199 (including a marineland biowheel filter and flourescent hood), but if it's too small to last a few years, it's not worth it.

I agree with Lupin a 30g would be the min. I personally would go bigger, but if you can't you can't. 28g is pushing it a bit.

I think you could get a decent sized tank for the goldies looking into hex/high tanks.
Heres' the measurements of a 60 hex I got from someone on craiglist:
The measurements are 24' across by 30' tank size the stand is 28'' high 6 sided hex each panel is 12 1/2''
