Made the rock structure with a calcium bentonite clay mix. Been waiting a while for it to firm up, and it finally did, so I jarred it up today.

I love the look of these! I have always wanted to make a terrarium like these, but I cannot find help online for how to get started. Did you just figure it out as you went along or did you have a website that helped you get started?
Thanks!

Thanks, Connor! I have been making these since I was a kid. There was a book at the local library detailing how to set them up, but the plant suggestions were a bit large for these smaller setups. It's definitely a learning process seeing which plants do well in the different setups though. Googling jar terrarium will bring up quite a few sites outlining the basic construction. I like to try and apply basic aquarium layout guidelines when planning out the hardscape. So far, plants that really lend themselves to the closed setups include riccardia, anubias, hc, and other liverworts and mosses.

Thanks, Dun! I've got a few more of these rock arrangements firming up in the zoo med right now. Hopefully they'll be ready to move soon enough, so I can bang out a few more of these for the holidays.

Thanks, Em!

Still waiting for the glue to dry on this one. Gotta work a few more details out about the best way to display it in this vessel. The glass dome is from an outdoor light fixture, and the bottom is a candle holder.
