Quote"I was reading through this thread today as a mostly satisfied owner of a TT 150. I searched out reviews elsewhere to see what they said, particularly in relation to the carbon's effectiveness/duration.

This was an interesting read:

I recomend against using carbon as a regular part of tank maintance I only use the carbon when medicating the tank as it loses its effective properties after 2 or 3 days anyway. I recomend and personally use a penguin filter and would continue with marinelands line of HOB in the future.:hang:

Theyre Tronic's.
Thanks. Next time I'm at the LFS I'll check out the sizes on the 150 watt Tronics. My guess is they will be noticeably shorter than the equivalent Ebo heater.

I did a little googling and found these measurments.

Ebo-
50 watt - 9"
100 watt - 12"
125 - 12"
150 - 13"
200 - 15"
300 - 17"

Tronic-
50 watt - 7"
100 watt - 9"
150 watt - 11"
200 watt - 11"

There was a site online somewhere that had accurate measurments of a bunch of different filters, but I can no longer find that link.

I use a Tetratec 500 on my 150 gallon tank. I like that the filter media can be removed from their frames to be cleaned and reused. I also like that it contains the heater if needed.

Edited to add: I don't use the wet/dry system. I find it to be too time consuming to get it working right after water changes so I just let it run full throttle without the siphon cap. Problem solved.
