I have 1 pictus in a 55 gal. Wiskers is the only one that I've got, he's got his own personal cave and seems happy and healthy and very active. He peacefully co-exists with the corys, but is buddies with an upside-down catfish.

He is a large, about 4 inches, and grew very fast.

Good luck with yours

I've kept pictus alone and in groups and in my own experience, they seemed much happier in a tank with conspecifics. They are fairly active and get up to 5-6", I would say a 55-75 minimum for a group of 3-4 fish..they really seem to appreciate the room to roam.

I have a lot of driftwood cover in my tank, but no real "caves" to speak of. Mine don't seem to hide out much, they spend most of their time in the open.
