I was riding in a few days ago, and thinking about what I would do if I could have the perfect tank. Not the giant, multimillion dollar tank with dolphins and turtles, but the household system that would make me happy.

It would require:
-staying in the same house for more than a few years
-a few thousand dollars lying aroung
-a few months away from work and household chores.
-the space for it.

Here's the basic layout:

240 gallon main reef.
-350 lbs live rock
-deep sandbed
-two 1200 gph closed loops for circulation
-three 400 watt halides (10000 or 14000 K)
-I am thinking a gorgonian-dominated, fairly open reef, with an assortment of other corals, anemones and clams interspersed.
-light fish stocking. A few tangs, clowns, dottybacks, several species of goby.
-Ca reactor
-50 gallon macroalgae refugium

60 gallon 2X2X2 cube seagrass/seahorse tank (plumbed to main tank)
-6" sandbed
-30-40 lbs live rock, with macro growth
-single 250 watt halide
-heavy growth of manatee grass
-small group (4?) tank-bred H. Reidi

30 Gallon tall (2X1X2) Intertidal/Surge tank
-45 lbs live rock
-single strip light
-Borneman "toilet flush" surge device, set to drain the tank halfway with each surge about twice each minute, giving surgy movement in the main tank.
-Assortment of intertidal critters (nerites, hermits, maybe a sand beach with fiddler crabs)

Dude, I wanna talk to ya! I'm working over the concepts of an intertidal system. I wanna know more on what you've thought through in the whole way of up and down with the tides. Do you do MSN Messenger?

It's hard for me to sit down long enough to do MSN messenger. I can post a few links on surge tanks, if you're interested.

I'd like to see what ever you have to offer, yes! Also, would love to have you, if you're interested, contribute in a site I'm just getting going solely for coldwater marine life enthusiasts - both "beach comber-tidepool terrorists/divers" and ""aquarist hopefuls." Link below in my signature if you're curious.

The marine intertidal tank I have in mind is to be taller than wide, with a focus on all levels of tidal life - from splash zone down to subtidal. My biggest "headache" is over how to make a slow transition up and down in water level.

6'x4'x2 (maybe 3') display tank, built into wall.

Behind the main tank (in the fish room):

Similar sized tank under the main one, to hold heater, Large skimmer (bullet?), PH controller.

Two ocean motions 4ways for return circulation.

Plumbed in frag tank, for growing out corals.

Quarantine tank to observe new fish/corals.

2x100gallon Rubbermaid sumps: one with live rock, one for automatic water changes.

Guessing: 4x 250watt DE halides, 2 400watt DE halides, and VHO attnics.

Arrangement:
10000k, 20000k, 10000k, 10000k, 20000k, 10000k
(250, 250, 400,400, 250, 250 wattage)

CA reactor, Brine shrimp hatch.

Plumbed in sea horse tank like Dave said, why not since the water quality would be so high. No sand anywhere, oh yeah, a chiller.
