Recently I've been playing with different types of sump setups, the one I'm currently working on now incorporates a sand bed filter and a refugium. The water is pumped from the end of the sump back to the start. The refugium section today had a very odd clear incredibly smelly substance spreading on the surface of the sand. It looked like snot and smelled like left out in the sun for 3 days chicken livers to be honest.

Any ideas? :werd:

No sorry, I tested the sump water and found everything was on the "danger" side of things and drained all the water. I'm going to run RO / DI water through the system to help clear the sand out. I'll probably lose whatever bacteria I had built up, but I can't see much living at the levels I got from the tests.
