CRS and cherry shrimp together?

From all that I have read up on some red cherry shrimps are sold as Crystals, but most RCS come in a wide variety (crystals, red, blue, gree, etc.) are all a varient of Neocaridina denticulata, and thus yes will cross breed.

However, true CRS are: Caridina sp


Do you have pictures!?! They are very beautiful...and Expensive! :D

No, they won't interbreed. Crystal Reds and Cherry Shrimp aren't even in the same genus (Caridina vs Neocaridina)

Take note that while Cherry shrimp are can withstand a large variety of temperatures (50s to high 80s), Crystal Reds prefer temperatures under 75F.

Chrystal Red Shrimp also prefer water that is softer.
 
well they are stuck with hard water of so cali.... i got 6 of them... i was going to put them in a 5 gal tank but needed to use it as a QT. the cherry are breeding like crazy i hope to be able to breed some of them. i have 5 red and 1 black crystal. not sure if ill need more then 6 to get a good colony going or what.
 
Nice. I've always wanted crystal red shrimp. I do believe that they wont interbreed because of them being of a differnet genus.

Although, they might not even breed with eachother since you only have 6.....
 
They won't like the hard water but it won't kill them.
They may even breed but certainly won't thrive.
If your looking to start a decent sized colony, you'll need to find a way to lower your GH and PH.
