i've heard that ph for discus is even very good for them at 3.5-5.5 one of the best ph they can have-as long as its stable

That is hard to believe. That water would be like lemon juice. Ph 5 is about the lowest they would thrive in. They may be able to survive in slightly lower for some time but there water in the wild is only about 5.8-6.2 that being said they could handle slightly more acidic water and domestic bred discus can handle a wide range of ph up to 8 but you will most likely never get a breeding pair with out keeping your water right at 6ish

Discus do not like change and can thrive in a variety of pH levels. Consistency is the key. My Discus are in about 7.7pH and they are doing great. pH from 6-8 will be ok for Discus as long as you keep it consistent. You can lower it if you isolate a breeding pair and wish to induce spawning. Peat moss is used for this.
Your fish is stunted man. Isolate him do lots of water changes and feed him as much as possible.

His fish isn't stunted. He just got it a few days ago. I won't disagree that is doesn't look well but I believe he got some good advice here and if he chooses to follow it he will end up with a good healthy discus.
