Hello all!
I have an 18 gallon tank. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to list the specifications but here goes:
Bio wheel filter
SeaClone 100 protein skimmer
1 powerhead
2-3 inches live sand
10-12 pounds live rock
50/50 compact flourescent lights
1 yellow striped maroon clown
1 orange spotted goby
1 mandarin dragonette (i know, i know, he's being adopted out to someone with a larger tank)
1 snowflake eel
1 serpent star
1 blue coral banded shrimp (hitcher, i lucked out here)
2 blue leg hermit crabs(hitchers)
a few mushroom corals
several snails (hitchers)
about 10 teensy starfish (also hitchers)
1 tiny anemone (smaller than a dime, also a hitcher, and i fear he's one of those bad little ones that i hear about)
So...am I terribly overstocked? I fear so but the hubby just won't quit bringing stuff home from the LFS.
Has anyone had any experience with the seaclone? I hear nothing but bad things about them it seems. Of course this was after Husband brought it home. It also seems to be spitting jillions of tiny bubbles into my tank which annoys me and the fish. Also, is it possible to overskim your tank? A friend of mine told me to only run it a couple of days a week.
The orange spotted won't stop eating. How many times a day should I feed him? He chows down like he's starving every time i put food in the tank.
The maroon is just awesome. He's got such a personality. He seems to be a picky eater though, in the sense that he doesn't seem to want to eat the same food twice in a row. One time it's flakes, one time it's minced shrimp, then brine shrimp, then bloodworms. Is this normal?
Should I be worried about the plague of tiny starfish?
I have heard that the snowflake with eat crustaceans, so far however he hasn't bothered anything. Is it only a matter of time? He's about 5 inches right now, but i keep him pretty well fed - shrimp, krill or squid about every other day.
Has anyone used Purpleup with success? So far I haven't seen much progress, the coralline seemed to be doing alright before I started adding purpleup, but spreading rather slowly. About how long does it take for coralline to grow?
Well that's about it for now, thanks in advance to anyone patient enough to reply.
