Tetra tank set up...now what?

You havent started a cycle yet if there isnt a source of ammonia..... This is why your test results are at 0ppm.

You will have to add a source of ammonia to get a cycle going

your tank is not ready for fish.

you have to add ammonia. you can do this by throwing a cocktail shrimp in the water. or you can buy pure ammonia at some grocery stores.

read the link on the previous page about cycling.

Or try obtaining some established filter media or substrate from a cycled tank.......

either way, there would still need to be an ammonia source

:22_yikes: Your tank is not cycled yet. It is, however, ready for the first few fish like feeder guppies or platies, to start producing the waste products that will be the "food" for the bacteria you plan to grow in your filter, gravel and elsewhere, that will eventually process your tetra's waste products. To help the process, you can add the recommended amount of a non-refrigerated product like "Cycle," or a refrigerated product like "BioSpira," both of which provide cultures of the type of bacteria you want. Of course the guppies fish poop will also supply these, but a bit slower.

I was under the impression that there was an ammonia source supplied?

From what? Unless your tap has ammonia in it, which probably wouldn't be enough to start a cycle anyways...

I suggest not doing a fishy cycle. Not fun for the fish to suffer and then be returned because their use is done.

Actually, any traceable amount would be plenty enough. Two snails in a 10g can kick off a cycle, I know from experience. In this case though, I was under the impression there was an ammonia source. I'm not sure why I assumed it, though, I probably shouldn't have. :wall:
