Hi guys

Am thinking of getting a sand shifting goby to help move my sand around, keep it clean and oxygenate it. Have read mixed opinions regarding goby's. Of most concern is that they can eat all of my sand creatures, also that people have trouble feeding them as they prefer to find their food in the sand bed.

So if anyone can let me know how they've managed with goby's that would be great. Also what specific type should I be looking at? LFS recommended banded goby

Cheers

my goby bit off my finger, i wont go into details...

Lol....learn the hard way then with that one then...

My sand sifting goby was cool, was about 4 - 5 inches when he was sold..he did a great job, eat the same mixed feeds as the rest of the fish and did his sifting aswell..

I've got a six-spot slepper goby and he's ace. He's brilliant at sifting and like Niko's also takes the same mixed foods as the rest of my fish. He's also just started to nip at the turkey baster when I'm target feeding my sun coral!

I have a gold headed sleeper goby and he does a brilliant job at sifting the sand.....and stirring things up and making bunkers. The first couple of weeks he was a right pain, but now he has settled into a few spots which helps the tank. I have tubeworms in the sand and he has left them -thankfully. Apparently it is common for the first couple of weeks or so for them to stir everything up and then settle down. He has a lot of personality which I didn't expect and like to take the mickey out of the bi-color blenny.

I have the banded goby your LFS recommend in my 55. I love it. Loads of personality, eats pretty much anything I feed the tank and sifts just the top layer of sand. He has taken over the area under the rockwork and created lots of caves and passage ways placing bunkers of sand in front of cave openings. Highly recommend the banded.

I had a diamond goby. He did an excellent job at keeping the sand clean and ate flakes, mysis shrimp, krill, etc. Sometimes he would drive me nuts as he would move the sand from the front of the tank till the glass bottom was showing. Unfortunately after 6 months of having him he decided to go carpet surfing. I have covered the tank now and am looking for another to replace him with.

What's with them escaping? Anyone else lost a digit?

I love how you guys say carpet surfing. With my fresh water tank i had a bala shark go "carpet surfing"

Btw, are all gobys bottom feeders?
