Help! Snails problem!

I think my Betta, or Apple snail are eating the little ones. When I started my 1g bowl, I put a plant in and had at least 5 tiny snails that I could see. After a week they were gone. I moved the Betta and Apple to a 30g tank that I planted heavily. As soon as I filled the tank I saw a tiny snail on the glass and I had seen another one on a leaf of a plant. I didn't see any others, and figured I would leave them in there. It's been a week, and I haven't seen them again. They are either dying, or... something is eating them.

Re: the bleach solution... IMO I would never put a living thing into bleach, diluted or not. My mom used to use bleach to kill the weeds that would grow in the cracks of the sidewalk back home. Those things would shrivel up and die within a few minutes.

If you really want to get rid of them, I think the natural way is the best - get (or borrow) some snail predators! I had a HUGE snail infestation in my 50g planted, so I countered with a male/female pair of freshwater red-eyed puffers, and now I have to BUY snails to keep those guys fed! (Thankfully, they also eat beefheart, bloodworms, etc.)

Yoyo loaches are also great at resolving snail problems, and don't need the specialized diet that puffers do.

I highly recommend getting a snail-eating fish (or school of them), but make sure you know all about your new fishie's requirements before buying! Yoyos get up to 4" and like to be kept in schools of at least 3-4. Puffers are super rare, and need a constant diet of crustaceans to keep their beaks from overgrowing.

Good luck!

That was straight bleach. The recipe people use for dips is something like 20 to 1. Its significantly weakened and does fine with most plants.
