radiata lion wont eat.

its been about 2 and a half weeks.

He has had nothing but ghost shrimp. He ate the ghost shrimp live at first, like river suggested, then i got him to take dead ones. I pack the dead ones with 2 or 3 pellets of marine food, and he took 3 of those so far, so like a total of 6 or 7 pellets. But now he has gotten to smart for that, and doesnt swallow the pellet!

I dont think its very healthy for him to live off of ghost shrimp alone, is it?

He does show interested in food however, i mean whenever i am in the room , hes looking at the surface, waiting for me to drop something in. But unless its a ghost shrimp, he just watches intently for a moment, then lets it go bye and the trigger eats it.

I try just about every day to feed him something different, whether it be brine, or a raw prawn, or flakes, or freeze dried krill, or silver sides or mysis or formula one. Now im not saying i try all of these things every day, because that would be a waste. But i do try these things from time to time, and switch up every day what i try too.

its so sadd lol i just want the poor thing to eat, and its so hard not to give in and just let him have another ghost shrimp. But im a good fish owner, and i know that those arent very good for him, so i stop myself.

Any ideas? (sorry for ranting by the way)

Not really sure since I've never experienced one that wouldn't eat. I've certainly read how some will go a few weeks without eating. Do you think he might be trying to eat other stuff and the Trigger is outcompeting him right now? Hindsight is always great but this is one of those reasons that QTing comes in handy. You can get a new fish on your diet without them having to deal with out fish. Have you tried some of the other foods again? The silversides, etc.?

I have tried some silver sides, and no i dont believe the trigger is out competeing. The trigger is shy, and not agressive when it comes to eating, he is more of a picker. I put the food right in front of the lions face, and he doesnt move. The trigger does eventually eat the food, but that is about 3 or 4 minutes later when hes over the fear of the turkey baster being in the tank, and he comes out of his crevice. The trigger is scared of the lion in my opinion to be honest, he doesnt even like to go near the lion. I probably should of QT'ed the lion, but i didnt want to stick him in a 20g long tank because as it is, his wingspan is almost wider than that tank, and im not sure if it would have made a difference.

wow, i feel dumb. I tried something pretty normal, that i had done before but he just didnt react. I thawed a few silver sides, and rinsed them in some garlic, then i just dropped them in front of the power head so they would like alive. He gobbled them both up!

YAY!!! lol.

Ok, now from reading the container, these dont appear to be that healthy either, but still better than **** ghost shrimp. Do you think it would be smart to still pack them with vita chem?

I've seen a few lions act just like yours. I really think that he's at the point where you just need to let him go without his favorites for several days. Then; I'll bet he'll scarf the 1st morsel you toss his way.

yeah, maybe.

so now i should be feeding my lion 2-3 times per week?
