Just for the record, I agree with what I have heard. The noisy #1s (will be sending them back) I tested out don't seem to push any more water than my MJ900s. My MJ 1200 seems to push a lot more than the #1. This is very surprising considering the difference in how many gal./hr they say they should push. I think one of the main reasons why the #1 seems a lot weaker is because it pushes the water in a very wide area while the Maxi-Jets push the water in a fine stream so all the power is going into one place instead of being spread out through the tank. This makes sense to me.
Its a totally different rating... if that makes sense... like your mj will push a hard flow in a really restricted area, and it seems to die over a short distance accross the tank...
with the koralias, you can put your hand in front of it and not feel very much current, but you look across your 48" long tank and you see sand blowing all over the place...

Interesting. I also bought a Rio 50 for my 5 gal. freshwater tank. Figured I'd give it a lil flow. Its like 65 gph and that seemed a little strong for the 5 gal so I put the piece with the valve on it and cut the flow down a little. The fish don't seem to mind it. Makes the plants blow around gently.
I wouldn't agree that its a different rating gph is gph.. The second part of your statement in the way it dispearses the flow I do a agree with. I have a MjMod kit comming that will basically turn my mj into a koralia. Its rating the mj 1200 at 1600 gph and we will see what that does to the tank.
