What's the gender of these JD's?

perfect thanks. The guy i bought them from said they were male and female but he wasn't sure.

However, some females are known not to have the coloring under the mouth and gills. My 4" JD female doesnt have the coloring under her mouth and gills, but has the short rounded dorsal and anal fins. Also if you had just 2 females they wouldnt get along that well and be by eachother like in your pics. Most of the time when you have only 2 males or 2 females they are always fighting to establish dominancy.

How big are your Jd's? At around 4"-5" males start to get the elongated dorsal and anal fins on them. If you look at my pic, my male EBJD's dorsal fin is elongated which means instead of rounding off it is longer and kinda comes to a point.

They are both 4". I have a tough time differing between male and female when it comes to the fins because they look pretty much the same to me. Love the fish though.

^why?

i think male and female because of the gill plate covering. the difference between them looks fairly obvious.

First off I don't think the gill plate is the best and only way of sexing. They both have very few spangles, don't have the bright red line on their dorsal fin, and neither has long dorsal or anal fins. They are similar is size and I would expect the male to be larger, and have tan striping common in females wanting to breed. But that is just my opinion

1st pic, one on the left is female, one on the right is male. Females have the greenish/blue coloring under their mouth and gills. And dont have elongated dorsal and anal fins.

I agree - the finnage clinches it for me.
