sand/rock cleaning with 'lawn'

I've been browsing around and I've got to say, there are so many of you with gorgeous planted tanks. I want to do the same.
A question I have though: How do you clean/vacuum the substrate when you've got the whole bed covered with clovers/grassy plants?
Do you get lots of cleaning fish or snails, and underfeed?
Thanks a lot for any input.

I just don't vacuum. I will suck up clumps that I see but for the most part no gravel cleaning needed. It is good plant food. I just change water and wipe down the glass.

...but I like to swish the gravel vac back and forth just above the plants to stir up any loose stuff and then suck it up.
Imo, underfeeding is one of the best things to do for your tank...just my 2cents.
