Hello everyone, I finally got my first tank cycled :worthy:. well its a 29gal and was wondering what you suggest me to stock it with? I know I want an angelfish!!! But here is what I am thinking....
  • 1-Angelfish
  • 6-8 Glass Catfish Minor
  • 1-Striped Raphel Catfish (I have heard a mixed opinion...some say to big, but others say it will be fine...I have talked to a person who said that theirs lives happily...its currently in my 10gal (I was a newbie once:hitting:)
  • 1-2 Cories
To much...too little please let me know what you think?:feedback:

1 Angelfish
2 German Blue Rams (pair)
6 Cories

:)

Thanks southpaw, anybody else?

Is my setup overstocked or just right or can I still add fish...btw its a planted tank if that makes a difference.

1-2 Corys is not enough for them to be happy (4-6+).

I actually like Southpaws suggestion a lot!

The Striped Raphael should done fine, but man do they get big and Fat! The good thing is that they are almost exclusively nocturnal ... Good luck feeding your Corys when he comes out ot feed!

I think I read where glass cats can get upto 6" long and the Raphel can get upto 9" long.... so you might want to rethink this some

If you are going to put Cories in there they should be in a school of atleast 6 to keep them happy. I would go with the Angel and maybe a school of 6 cories then a school of 6-8 larger sized tetras if you dont want to do rams.

so hows this sound for my planted 29gal.?

  • 4-6 Cories, or what about otos (which is so called better and how many?)
I just dont want an overstocked tank

glass catfish are pretty delicate and need very clean water so unless you are able to keep a tight maintenence schedule I would rethink that

I really like southpaws idea or if you do not want rams try a school of about 6-8 tetras/barbs/rasboras?

siamese algae eaters might be cool instead of corys. I've been looking also at rummynose tetras, black skirt tetras along with many others including rasbora and blue rams (german or bolivian). Do these appeal to you, computerman? The fish i mentioned would probably go great with angel fish too. Sounds like your catfish will be having a nice upgrade to a bigger tank.

Considering the Raphael is staying, I'd go with:

1 angel
1 raphael
4 minor glass cats
6 cories
2 otos

OR

2 GBRs
1 raphael
6 cories
8 small tetras
2 otos

(I like idea 2 better)

Btw, SP, I believe regular glass cats get 6", but minors get only 3", which would make sense of the added "minor".

SAE's get about 6" long. Cories don't eat algae, otos do.
