Red Tailed Shark tank mates

I have one red tailed shark in a 20 gallon with one Ram and four guppies. The shark was hiding in his corner almost all the time, but lately I've finally noticed a little more aggression on his part (as he gets older, I think). If he continues to antagonize the Ram I may move the Ram to another tank... so then what could go in the 20 with the shark?

they definetly get more aggressive with age and will probably antagonize any new fish. maybe you want to try something that is a little more aggressive too and that way it may be able to hold its own? just a suggestion!

Red tails will hammer barbs. Ive found that the best tankmates for red tails in my experience have been african cichlids.

No. Only synodontis species with africans.

Not so, Ive been keeping a single redtail (because redtails are intollerant of more than one of their own species per tank) with africans for years. The Shark will chase the smaller ones around and completly ignores the bigger ones and they ignore him but the ket thing here is he does not kill them. To the topic creator, if you dont want your shark to start killing other fish as it gets bigger, take my advice, rts do very well with africans.

Africans prefer a higher pH and hard water, while RTS prefer a lower pH and softer water. Therefor these two types of fish are not compatible.
