New aquarist with some questions

Hello,

I have a 37 Eclipse aquarium. The following items are what I have left to purchase and since I do not know too much about the differences, I was wondering if I could get some feedback on what to get/look for?

This will be a freshwater aquarium
I need:

-Testing equipment (all in one test or separately, what to test for mainly?)
-Water additives
-Food
-flourescent lighting to make a better environment than the regular ones that came with the aquarium

-Any suggestions on fish? I know that the amount of fish is equal to their size in inches up to the gallons in the aquarium.

testing equipment.... liquid test kit...... api master test kit

water additives..... prime

food depends on what fish you get

the stock light is fine just prob wont be able to grow plants

fish.... really depends on what you like..... inch per gallon doesnt work dont stock your tank like that. go to the lfs check out the fish you like and write some names down.... come back and read up on them.

Test kit: API
Addatives: Prime (and only prime, unless you have soft water and snails_
Food: Depends on the fish
Light: Stock works fine, just don't expect to be able to grow any plants.

Most community fish should work, Just research and get what you like.
 
API test kit and Prime for the dechlor.

Lighting will depend on live plants or not, what kind of plants, and depth of tank.

I would do some google searches and visit per stores, to get an idea of what you like, then post here for compatibility and how many you can have.

Definitely do not use that 1" per gallon rule as a guideline.
 
don't forget a net, and a siphon hose for water changes

In addition to Prime, Dr Foster is recommending Stress Zyme to improve the bio filtration....is this needed?

I am also going for the API freshwater master test kit

As far as air pumps, by using a "T", I realize it "weakens" the flow, but if I have a Rena 200 in a 37 gallon (says used for 20-30) to use up to 2 bubble devices, will this be powerful enough if my tank is approximately 30x12x24?

As far as the airpump, it is a personal preference to have bubbles.

Another question (and again thanks for your help!)....when creating a tank from start, should I have ammonia/PH/etc high or low on hand to adjust as necessary? Any recommendations?
