Oscar with hole in the Head

I answered a similar question like this a couple of weeks ago. When my Tiger Oscar had HTH, I didn't use any meds whatsoever. I placed her in a hospital tank, did large water changes and fed her a variety of different foods. Within a week, the holes were almost closed and after 1 week and a few days, they were closed completely. I put her back into the 225 and she's been fine ever since. What's your water condition? Are you feeding your Oscar the same thing day in and day out?

I just don't get it! Today he's got a whole on the other side a little smaller than the one in the picture.. and some smaller ones forming in the side in the pictures. Water conditions have been perfect: ammonia/nitrite=0, nitrates 10ppm or below. I've been supplementing his HBH oscar grow with liquid vitamins. An occasional mealworm (once a week). I've treated with metronidazole (no carbon in filter), I've been using melafix.
On the plus side, he's still got a good appetite, and he is less pale in color.

yes.. just like a human taking a multivitamin, the results may take a week or more to manifest in the extremities (ie. skin)

Well, I think that it's starting to get a little better. Is it really necessary to do a water change after a week if the nitrates are only 5 ppm? I did one anyways today..
