Heater?

Alright well I noticed today that my temp in one of my tanks is getting a little cold because it is getting cold outside. (I have never run a heater and have used room temperature)

Well I have a brand new 250 watt visi-therm deluxe heater by Marineland. Is this brand of heater any good?

Since I have never used a heater, do I just put it in and set it to my desired temp?

Does it have an automatic shut off when it gets that temp, or does the temp just keep increasing?

Yes it is a good heater, in fact excellent. Have you read the instructions? It will cycle on and off to maintain the tank temp.

I read them but for some odd reason I couldnt find where it said that.

Should I set it lower than the temp I want just to make sure it wont overheat?

I would set it just under what you want and let the tank stabilize out. Monitor your temp and make slow gradual increases in the setting until your tank stabilizes at the desired temp. This could take several days, depending on the size of your tank.
