I'm currently away and have left my tank to cycle, my wife has been keeping an eye on things and after 2 weeks of cycling she sais that there is now brown algae in the tank (woo hoo). I get back tommorow night so will check params and hopefully my tank will have cycled. She noticed what she called "a real ugly scary looking thing" going into a hole in the live rock so I got her to send me a pic, unfortunately its a mobile phone pic so not the best quality but here it is, also, if my tank has cycled do i do a water change and leave a day or so before adding a mini clean up crew?

If your tank has finished its cycle, yes, get a 50% water change done...wait a few dyas and start to stock slowly with cleanup crew..of course, it all depends on your nitrate level...have point out something, no idea what, on the picture..is this what your refering too?

Sorry Niko, the item you so kindly arrowed is the the thing me wife is now scared of! I now have 3 weeks off from work as of tommorow so I have 3 weeks to get my tank sorted. I'm gonna do a 15% change if my params are ok (its only a 24 gallon tank), give a couple of days, test again, then another 15% change. If after a couple of days my params are still stable then it will be time for a small clean up crew. I'm not gonna rush this tank as it has cost me enough all ready and i've not even stocked it yet lol

Update. It turns out that the "thing" in the tank is a some sort of crab with one small claw and one large claw(description from wife)so I'm hoping maybe somthing like a porcelain crab! There are about 5 snails and 4 crabs she has spotted so I'm looking forward to getting home and taking a look for myself, and getting some better pics. Oh, and the button polyp that sprung from the live rock has started to get bigger as has the few mushrooms I spotted before going away 6 days ago!

There are a few crabs that have a larger claw than the other. The number of marine crabs out there is vast and often the guideline with them is if you didn't add it to the tank intentionally it is safer to put it into the fuge. I doubt it is a porcelain or anemone crab, mine have not had one claw larger than the other.

I dont have a fuge as its a nano tank, what else can I do?
