Discus needs your help!

do you have a quarantine tank available?

is the fish dark(stressed discus can actually turn black)

typical response to discus not feeling well,

qt, add salt and raise the temp slowly to 84-86f.

low lights (discus actually prefer low light conditions.) mine are extremely active with only room lights and no tank lights.

discus will retreat to calm areas when stressed too. (lowlight less activity etc)

The dose of epsom salts I use for stomach bloat is 2 tablespoons to 10 gallons of water. Can redose in 8 hours if no results after first dose.

There are a number of things wrong with your tank setup.

1. DPs do not belong in it at all, They belong in a species tank. You will lose other fish to them, even bigger ones.
2. Discus dont like bright light.
3. Discus dont like much flow, you have a lot.
4. Discus need very clean water of at least 82 degrees.
5. What do you mean by sucker mouth catfish? It could mean anything and some of them will go after discus and/or other fish.

Here is what I would do to treat the discus. Put it into an H tank. get the temp up close to 90F. Be sure you have good aeration. Add 3 tablespoons of the Epsom for every 10 gals. Dose the tank with Maracyn or generic Erythromycin following the lable directions. Do not add salt. Change 25% of the water every other day, after the change dose that days meds and be sure to replace the 25% of the Epsom you removed with the water change.

All my fish get along well and are doing fine exept the red pigon blood discus he looks pale not dark. The DP dont bother any other fish in the tank. I do 25% weekly water change temp is around 84-86. I will QT the discus and do salt treament when I get home.

epsoms usually comes in the form of epsom 'salt' ;)

btw, rdzralph 25% weekly is a pretty small amount especially for discus,, given tank load you might ant to consider more frquent changes.

The fish is in the qt tank, I followed Debbi's recommendation. Last night I dosed with salt set temp to about 86-88. This morning same condition added more salt to tank. I feed him and he did eat. When I get home should I continue with the same treatment if I don't see an improvement? Can I do larger water changes instead of more smaller frequent changes?

Did you notice if there's any belly bulge on the discus?
And you're saying he's still having trouble keeping his balance when he swims, not swimming normally, correct?
Did you use EPSOM salts....that's not the same as regular table or aquarium salt.
