Well Water

I have well water at my new house with a water softener. We have to use the green bags of salt with the Rust Remover because of the high iron content. Under the kitchen sink I beleive is a RO unit, it has three canisters the water goes through before it comes out a faucet on the sink. I am guessing this water is okay to use, the guy from the water place came out and tested the water from that faucet with a little meter that tests for particles in the water and it was under 20 and the normal water out of the kitchen faucet was around 400. I have no clue what unit of measure it was but it sounded good. My question is will the well water coming out of the ro unit be as pure as the water I normally get filled up at the grocery store?
 
It's probably dissolved solids parts per million that he measured. 20 ppm is really low, so I'd say it's safe to use. You could get a good charcoal filter and micron particulate filter for the output from the RO and get it even lower. I don't think the water from the grocery store is going to be less than 20 ppm.
 
Dissolved solids sounds right, I think that is what he was testing for. It may of been 40 instead of 20, not sure, but it definately was under 50 ppm. So i am guessing it doesnt matter where your water comes from (well or city) as long as it runs through a RO unit?
 
I tend to agree with Nolapete. It sounds like a TDS reading to me. It is pretty good although with my RO/DI unit I get zero reading (when I change the filters and membrane!!) I'd also check for nitrates, phosphates and copper just to make sure but that's just me being very catious as I had a massive problem with water issues.
 
Yeah, i think i will stick with the grocery store water. Its kind of a pain, but it runs through the RO/DI and UV light which is something i dont have. Thanks for the help.
On another note, how come the copper from the water pipes doesnt affect the water? or does it?

It can do. That's why it's always best to test!!
