salinity question

hey thanks for the info. my salt levels seem to be getting better now. as for what i am putting in my tank, i dont know what it is classified as but it will have live rock, fish, as well as reef , do you guys have a name for that?

and it looks like no one can help right now on the bakpak issue. maybe i will start a new thread so it gets looked at.
how do you reduce the amount of bubbles coming back into the tank from the skimmer?

hello and welcome to AC, this is where i got all my info for my tank and still do!!!

I have a css 65 skimmer, when i first got it about a week or 2 ago it was used and so the guy cleaned it and sent it to me and i rinsed it really good when i got it, then i put it in my tank, it is a hong on back kind (HOB), so after i plugged it in it was returning so many micro bubbles in my tank it looked like my tank had cloudy water, but i was told to just let it "break in" and the bubbles will go away, so i did, i made it so that the water in the skimmer was just about going into the overflow tube inside the collection cup (about 5%), and i let it run, 2 days went buy and all the micro bubbles were gone, then a about 4-5 days went by and i had an inch of brown water sitting in my collection cup, then i made the water go into the tube about 75% and it seems to be working great for me. so my advice to you would be to just let it run and the bubbles should go away, that is what worked for me, but i have a different skimmer than you so it might night work for you, correct me if i am wrong,

well after i posted i went to go look closer at my skimmer again and found that i do now have "some" skimming action going on. is it normal for it to be pretty much a salty slime water? i know that is all that is in my tank right now so it makes the most sense to me. and the bubbles seem to be calming down a bit. is it true that corals HATE bubbles?

i am not sure if corals hate bubbles but i was told that micro bubbles are bad for slat water! and my tank is only 3-5 weeks old and it is taking brown water out f my tank, how long has your skimmer been in the tank? And how old is the tank?

cool thanks a lot guys, i have been watching it for the last few days and your are right. but one thing i dont understand is how they do have a break in period, it doenst make that much sense to me. lol.

simply because the internals will be getting coated by the salinity of the saltwater, constant salt water always leaves a kind of slimy coating on plastics..dont really know the exact chemistry of it though..lol ;)
