How to make your very own wet/dry, sump and DIY pvc overflow!

Ok guys I got good news. I'm going to home depot right now to get silicone and latex gloves so I can work on my sump. Then I'm going to the LFS to get a filter sock! Progress will be slow tho... I just sliced 5 out of my 10 fingers on accident and they feel like they are on fire! :( So I'll still work it just might take longer to do then if I had my fingers at full strength.

if i could give you 2 tips for your overflow/ sump system it would be : use the largest sump size you can fit, because of evaporation you will have to add water very often. i am using a ten gallon sump on my 55 gal and it uses about a 1/2 gallon of water every day. by adding more volume to your sump ( raising water level in your sump ) you'll have to top off less often. (thats remedied by makeing your seperator plates higher ) 2nd is buy a "toms aqua lifter pump " and drill a hole in the top pipe of your overflow to prevent siphon loss - at $15 its cheap insurance see my post ->http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=780544#post780544

The pvc overflow does not lose its siphon in the event of a power loss.

Famous last words night prior to waking up to flooded living room and thousands of dollars in damage. ;)

Many do work pretty reliably, but there is always a chance.

No I tested it. I tried it like 10 times when I first made it and I test it monthly. It always works. ;)

Update. I completed the sump. I was taking pictures of it on the table and my cat knocked it on the floor and broke. :swear:

Parents went out of town for the weekend so hopefully I can get a new 10 gallon tomorrow..

Yea she is a PITA cat, but I still love her! :)

This sump is going to look very clean, just like a brand new start.

I bought a new 10 gallon and painters tape so it will look really clean when I make the sump. I only have part of it done, but I'll go take pix of it. I'll have them up later.
