gravel out. sand in!

From the time I finished putting sand in the tank to the time I fired up the filter, I gave it maybe an hour? I rinsed my sand quite rigorously the night before, so I wasn't overly concerned with floating particulate.

i washed the sand like i would wash rice to eat.. so it was really clean. BUT im staring at my tank right now and its so cloudy =/ ive been waiting for an hour or so

Call me crazy, but I've noticed that when the light is off on tanks, they get clearer faster. True story.

Got a new pair of pantyhose handy? Put it over your filter pad (literally, stretch it out, insert filter pad, and double it back over it) and put your filter pad back in the filter, and let 'er rip. It took 24 hours with one of my 2 filters having pantyhose over the filter pads. Crystal clear now. :-)
