Whisper/Emperor/Penguin Filter Users

Hey guys.. Im sure you all have experienced the downside of the carbon cartridge in the whisper filters.. how the biobag does not hold the carbon evenly and throughout some time all the carbon settles to the bottom of the bag and somewhat blocks the water flow causing a backup to occur..
Well last week i found what could be a perfect solution to the useless biobag..

From the looks of it it keeps the carbon evenly spread out and prevents it from dropping to the bottom..

I ordered a pack yesterday and will see if it is actually better than the current media i am using..

Anyone have reviews on it??

Looks like you'll need to cut a square out on the bottom to fit over the impeller cover. Let us know how it goes!

I have a Whisper that I got several years ago for free that I use on one of my smaller QT tanks. I don't use cartridges in it at all. I just stuff the box with sponge or floss that I rob from one of my canisters when I need to set up the QT tank. I hate those flimsy little cartridges. I don't normally even use carbon, but when I do run carbon to remove meds, I put bituminous coal pellets in a mesh bag and sandwich it between two pieces of foam and fill the box with that. It's a lot cheaper, and it works better.

Me too - I've actually stuffed an old bag into a newer one & put that in my in-tank Whisper. If there's C in it, it's just to weight it down beyond the first few weeks.

Oh that's cool. If I would have clicked the link, I would have realized they're aftermarket filters made for that application. nice!

I don't see the need to run carbon at all. I fill mine with potscrubber material.

Activated carbon = chemical filtration
Potscrubber material = bio filtration.

Unless you're running old dead carbon for bio material only, potscrubbers won't help with taking any checmicals out of the water

I have plants to take care of most things. I don't really see why you need 'chemical filtration' in a properly cared for system.

Carbon has it's use as a medication clearer or to remove tanins, but other than that i find it useless.
