DANGITTT! My 4 year old is obsessed with my baby GSP and usually he just feeds him snails from the neighboring tank, but I just caught him with my baby in a net and just holding him there! The poor thing is all fat looking and sitting at the bottom of the tank! Is there anything I can do? I read that puffing up outside of water like that can kill them!

OMG I'm so angry and upset right now!!!!!!

okay, I tried that. He moved his mouth a few times as I gently rubbed his tummy and at least one air bubble came out, then he reinflated with water and got away from me. I'm leaving him alone now. I don't want to stress him out anymore than he already is. If I lose that fish..... :angryfire::cry:

Good luck saving your puffer!

Puffing with water is just what you want him to do, to replace the air in him. You can also go to my GSP article in that same Library, for a different burping method. Looks like you need to find somewhay to prevent your youngin from messing with your tank. You never know when she'll try to feed your fish a whole can of food.

he seems okay now. back to pretty much normal size. Little bit fat in the belly, but he may have eaten a ghost shrimp.

I am moving him this weekend into the 28 tall I have, which is set up high enough that the kids can't get into it. They can look, but not touch. In the meantime, I'm using packing tape on my two 10s that are in the kitchen. Those will move into my office this weekend, along with the 29 long, that I've decided to house my 2 jewel cichlids in & 2 baby mystery africans.

Thanks for the links!

Af as housing puffers, long is much better than tall. 30g minimum is recommended for an adult.

I am watching craigslist for a good deal on something in a 40-50 range for him. The 28 will be transitional. Or 29. Whatever. I am working on it. :) Decisions decisions! I just love that fish. He is already so full of personality. We run our fingers lightly along the tank and he chases them. So cute! He's constantly begging when he sees my son looking in the tank because he knows he's probably going to get some snails. I am looking forward to the weekend, when I can at least get him up high so the kids can't reach him. ahhhh children. The little miracles.
