I don't get why anyone would use an additive to possibly prevent ich when a QT habit will do the same.

I'm such a strong believe that if you QT long enough you'll most likely not have to deal with it in the display to have to go through it that I don't really consider using the other.
I'm using Ick-Attack in my QT tank. It claims to be reef safe, but I'd rather not chance it. It's an herbal product so it seems a bit similar to the Mela-Fix/Pima-Fix products I've used to cure problems w/ freshwater.
So far it seems to be working!! No ick spots for about a week now. All my fish are active, eating.

I've used it unsuccessfully a couple of years back, some fish made it some didn't, like a Queen Angel, Emperor Angel, and a Clown Trigger to name a couple. Good luck, I hope it keeps working for you.
