asked this question in a few other theads but need some topic specific answers.
1. leopard wrass are reef safe but not some invert safe? yes/no
2. leopard wrass and mandrins both eat pods?
3. people are against them because of the shipping and collection methods?
4. if the wrass is eating mysis in the store is it a good buy?
5. what other fish could be kept with it?
6. are they known to jump (a new fear of mine)

if i could get any of these answered that would be great thanks a lot.

1. leopard wrass are reef safe but not some invert safe? yes/no...yes, they are fine IMO..they will feed of critter living on the live and should leave the normal tank shrimp alone providing the diet you give it is correct.

2. leopard wrass and mandrins both eat pods? ....That is correct.

3. people are against them because of the shipping and collection methods? ..IMO they should be cared for only by advanced aquarists, and i do believe they should be left in their natural habitat

4. if the wrass is eating mysis in the store is it a good buy? ..Yes, its always good to buy a known eating food that it feeds on at the store. You can always attempt to wean the fish onto more variety foods once established in your tank. You also need to ensure a good supply of pods are available in the tank.


5. what other fish could be kept with it? ...I deem this to be a peacefull fish.


6. are they known to jump (a new fear of mine) ...not as i am aware of, no..

if i could get any of these answered that would be great thanks a lot.

Answers above in red...Also to add, ensure the tank has a good sandy bottom as these fish do like to bury themselves when scared or when its dark...

again you are my hero answering all of my questions. you say for advanced aquarists can you go into detail on that?

When refering to advanced aquarists, i mean people who have been managing marine systems for a good while, understand causes and effects, how to notice when something just is not right, can happily go for 3 - 4 weeks without needed to run water tests because they know their system...examples such as them...

no that makes sense, there are 2 fish that i want desperatly in my tank but i will wait for both of them now for another 9 months or so, one i think is this and the other is a mandrin.... i understand when things arnt right but i still have A LOT of learning left to do.

Dude, we never stop learning...thats one of the great things about this hobby..we always learn something new everyday...Am glad you have mad the decision, i think its the right one to make...

oh i have know in my heart that my tank was not ready for this fish as well as teh mandrin i just dont want to get a fish that will die because i am a tool

I think that keeping a leopard wrasse together in a tank with a mandarin is asking for trouble unless you have a very large tank and have a well established sump/refugium and active deep sand bed providing enough pods to sustain both of these fish.

that is what i was thinking but if they both eat mysis is there a worry? and how deep do you recomend for a sand bed?

The eating habits of the Leopard Wrasse and the Mandarin can be picky at best. If you are lucky you can find a LW that will eat frozen foods, but not exclusively. I agree with Lorna that in order to keep both fish in a tank...better have a large tank and very well established fuge with a lot of pods. I only for the LW - she is my favorite fish. Before I got her my fuge (small at the time) was established and I added a 30 gallon fuge and stocked it with over 4,000 pods. I supplement with cyclopeze for my other wrasses' and mysis. The sand bed that you have in your tank is important becuase the LW burys herself at night.
