Nitrate and PH problems... Help!

I have no idea what this means, "100% tapas long as it is treated with prime or equivalent". Sorry...

Means that 100% tap water would be fine aslong as you are using Prime as your water conditioner ... Here is some of what it says on the bottle:

"Prime converts ammonia into a safe,non-toxic form....... Detoxifies nitrite and nitrate allowing the biofilter to more efficiently remove them "

So if you have trace amounts of ammonia and nitrate in you tap water using Prime will make it safe for the fish... You still might get a reading on your ammonia test showing the .5 you were getting from the tap but you will know it has been converted to a safer form.

To try this buy some Prime and test a sample of tap water... if it still shows the .5 ammonia add Prime to the sample and take another test of it after you add it... It may still show the .5 but it will be a safer form ....so knowing this anything over the .5 in your tank testing can be interperated as a rise in ammonia since you know it is always going to test at .5 because that is what your tap water tests at.

Hope you understand what I am getting at...harder to write things out sometimes than it is to just talk to someone face to face

Don't put any chemicals in. Mix a pint of each, check the ph. Save the rest, put a bubble in it for a few hours and check again.

OK, get a pint of both RO and tap and mix them together without chemicals and then check the PH and then bubble it for a few hours and check for PH again. I'm not sure what this is going to do, since if I'm using tap water I'm going to have to put chemicals in it. I'm kind of confused one what it's going to accomplish. Thanks...

No sorry I don't understand how if it is still reading .5 amonia that it's a safter form. I would think .5 amonia is .5 amonia.

No, I don't have Prime, but like I said before I have Kordon NovAqua Plus and AmQuel plus. I can add that. It was very expensive. It says it does the same thing. The NovAqua+ says, "Water Conditioner with Echinacea, Vitamins and Anti-Virus Protection. Detoxifies tap Water Breaks Down Chlorimines". The AmQuel+ says, "Removes Nitrate, Nitrite, Amonia, Chlorine, and Chloramines". Neutral Regulator says, "Adjusts high or low PH to 7.0, Removes Chlorine, Chloramine and Amonia." So, that's the stuff that I have right now. I never heard of Prime before. I was told the Kordon stuff was the best and that's why I got it... Thanks...

I am just saying it converts it to a safer form of ammonia yet it can still be used by the good bacteria in the tank...but is safe for fish. Alot of tests will still show the converted form as regular ammonia...when in reality it is a false reading.

Maybe someone else can explain it better......

I understand now, but it sounds like there isn't a way to tell if it's good or bad amonia... So, it might just be best to have no amonia at all unless I can test for the difference, so I know what's going on in my tank...

• AmQuel®+ removes and detoxifies ammonia, chlorine, chloramines, and toxic pheromones. AmQuel Plus detoxifies all noxious nitrogen compounds in the water, including nitrites and nitrates. Eliminates the toxicity of the Nitrogen Cycle that otherwise can kill fish in the first weeks of aquarium keeping, or when proper water conditions are disrupted, causing the Cycle to recur.

• NovAqua®+ is now more complete and effective than ever before. NovAqua®+has been reformulated to include Echinacea fro enhancement of the immune system, vitamins and Anti-virus Protection. Proven to be very effective in all types of water, NovAqua®+removes copper, lead and other heavy metals. In addition, NovAqua®+ acts as a stress reducer by supplying the needed electrolytes and an artificial skin coating to help prevent shock and stress during water changes or handling.

Neutral Regulator™ adjusts pH to neutral (pH 7.0) from either a low or high pH and maintains it there. It softens water by precipitating calcium and magnesium while removing any chlorine, chloramine, or ammonia. The use of Neutral Regulator™ makes other conditioning unnecessary. To lower pH below 7.0 use Neutral Regulator™ with Acid Regulator™ (or Discus Buffer™). To raise pH above 7.0 use with Alkaline Regulator™. All of these products will enhance and stabilize the freshwater aquarium environment. Use Fresh Trace™ to restore the proper level of trace elements required by thriving, healthy freshwater community fish.
