Hi. I Recently Purchased A Used 29gal Oceanic Biocube. It Came With A Crp Insump Protein Skimmer Which I Dont Know How To Use. I Also Purchased A Odysea 25o Power Head Filter. A 200watt Heater. 30lbs Live Sand And 20lbs Live Rock. The Tank Did Not Come With The Bio Balls In The Back. I Heard That Its Better To Use Live Rock. Due To Nitrate That The Bio Balls Produce. Can Some One Clarify That For Me? I Eventually Want To Make It To A Nice Looking Reef Tank With Some Small Fishes. Its Been Running For 24 Hours Now. Current Condition Seems Ok Yet The Temp. Seems A Little High. Can I Get Some Suggestions On How To Set It Up And To Maintain It. All Help Is Welcomed.

i have a 29g bio-cube as well. you should get some live rock rubble to put in the chamber where the bio-balls would go. you might want to get some more rock for the tank as well, seems like you are a bit light, usually shoot for 1-2# per gallon. what is your temp at? you can keep that back flat open and the front flap open to cool off the tank a bit it needed. sorry im not familiar with the skimmer so can't help with it. are you going to do something to start the cycle (add ammonia or raw shrimp)?

thanks for the advice

thanks. umm the tank has already cycled for 2 and a half weeks i used the raw shrimp model #1 worked great! i currently have a pecula clownfish in there and am going to buy some more live rock and a mushroom coral tomorrow. and i purchased 2 koralina 1 powerheads to replace the one i have. but i need some help with the skimmer do i need it?

As your tank is still cycling, i would not add anything more to the tank untill its finished, livestock/coral/invert wise. The aquarium is quite a harsh environment while its going through the cycle, and could potentially kill what you put in there..Hope the clown is doing well by the way...Potentialy, you could have another 4 weeks of cycling to go through yet..What are your current water parameters?? The powerheads are a good choice.

What help do you need with the skimmer? Explain all and we'll do our best to help...I would suggest you do need the skimmer running unless you've good experience with marine systems...

help

well it's a SR4 protein skimmer and upgrade version for the oceanic biocube. and at a website it say it goes where the bioballs would go which is in the middle. i currently have live rock rubble back there and i dont know how to set up the skimmer back there. please help

I believe that skimmer is supposed to go in the first section of the filter area, the one with the heater if i recall..As for the actual usage of it, never set one up. Saltys suggestion of an email to the company may be in order..
