Alright, as promised, here's some thoughts on Clown...
Inconsistent / Holey Logic
On Day 1, I jumped on Grins a little for her implication that Day 1 was somewhat of a blowoff. I asked her how she plans to minimize the chances of lynching an innocent if she didn't take the day seriously.
So then, what's your plan, Grins? Apparently Day 1 isn't to be taken seriously. Besides flicking bon-bons at your screen and seeing which names they stick to, if you're a townie, how do you plan minimize the chances of lynching an innocent on Day 1?
Ice agreed, as did Joander, who was actually the first to ask that folks take Day 1 seriously.
I agree with Jo and Mad.
The 1st day is hard enough without votes being randomly thrown. Its only post 128 and 6 players have 8 votes on them.
Though with Mal and ILBs votes it could be a tell so it might have helped in a strange way.
Here Clown comes back at me, wanting me to explain how I plan to minimize the lynching of an innocent. A little odd since I asked if of Grins. He seems a little defensive of her? Maybe.
I would kind of like to know how you plan on doing this as well.. Since you brought it up and all.. As of this point we have 19 players out of those 19, 4 are on mafia teams leaving us 15 townies. Which gives us a little less than a 1 in 4 chance of hitting a mafia. (21.05% if you want me to be exact).
I personally plan to play like I always do which is to let day 1 be day 1 and then go back and see if I can see any trends etc from that day.
I respond by 'taking it seriously'
Firstly, by actually taking it seriously. Folks always like to have fun and goof around at the beginning, which is fine, as there's not much else to discuss early on. But when someone says 'Chill dude, Day 1 is just a throw-away,' I notice.
Chances are extremely high that an innocent will be lynched on Day 1. Not treating the day as 'irrelevant' is the best way to lower those chances.
Now here he schools me on the documentary filmaker's creedo.... 'observe, but don't interact.' Claims that I could be altering scums' behavior by interacting with Grins? Okay. But look what he says about EMO and LChap... apparently whatever they did last game gave them away to Clown. Hey Clown, by mentioning this, if LChap and Emo are scum this game do you think they'll be doing what they did last game now? Kind of interacting with the wildlife, aren't you.
I can respect that but you can also be an observer of the human condition. You can see a lot of things other than just posting "tell me if your mafia". There are all kinds of underlying human interactions that can give them away and certain players do have tells. If you had been in last game you could have seen EMO and LesbianChap give themselves away multiple times.
But I do agree with your statement about "Chill Dude" but it would have been more interesting to see the outcomes of those interactions without butting in IMO, instead of telling them that they look mafia because of that reason. Now they have a reason to make themselves look more innocent or go back read those things and change their play.
As far as the 'Chill Dude,' don't get me wrong, I didn't say it was a scumtell. Others have said these things in other games, and it's not always scum. Just wanted to make sure that this idea doesn't spread among the newbies.
When you first questioned me after I jumped on Grins, it looked like you were running to her aid. This post makes it look like you may have been hunting Grins... sorry for spooking your prey.
Here's a post from Clown to Ice explaining that Ice and I have climbed higher on his scumdar as a result of saying that taking Day 1 seriously was a good idea.
Well you won't in random voting persay, but look at LC game before last.. But you can see trends if you just let people play how they want and look at other things. Like I told Mad there were things that were definate give aways to me anyway about the way EMO and LC played the last game.. I know I made a couple of faux pas myself but it at least let me know that I shouldn't vote for them.
But I also think you should let people make their mistakes so you can use it for case building later in Day 1 vs pointing it out and letting them change their method of play and blend in.
ICE you know as well as I do there are certain ways you can tell even if a vet is mafia and you don't give those guarded secrets away easily. But its not like last game where we had a 50% chance of hitting a mafia on day one. The chance does exist that we could get a mafia but your not going to get them unless you let them trap themselves are you..
Simply put you and mad have gone higher on my list because you were stopping that interaction.
Ice's response...(clipped by me)
If by pointing out that random voting doesn't help why did you leave Jo off that list?
Off of what list ICE? I used last game as an example and JoAnder didn't play last game.
That list. Jo also posted numerous times on the subject that random voting wasn't helping. But for some reason it didn't put him higher up as a suspect.
Clown mentions that he didn't verbalize that Jo moved up on his list, but that he didn't necessarily not move Jo up toward mafia on his list.
Just because I didn't verbalize it doesn't mean it didn't happen ICE..
Here Ice questions why Clown didn't verbalize it... I agree, verbally casting doubt on some players status and not others who did the same thing is fishy. Also, how come Clown never moved any of the people who interacted with Jo regarding his original request to take the day seriously toward mafia. Weren't they trying to shut Jo down? Changing any scumtells that he might throw?
I'm sure it did, but why not verbalize it?
No reason to spread suspicion when the players you really want out are the players most likely to out you?
Scumtells
Vote hopping
Much of Day 1 CL helps build a case on Grins.... then abandons it due to a secret message that she sends. Okay. Little bit of vote hopping on Day 1
Day 2, major vote hopping...all over. Landing on candidates multiple times.
I explained in my earlier post why vote hopping can be scummy. Allows scum to hide on buddies and move around if necessary while being able to say that they did vote for them at some point if the buddy ends up lynched and mafia.
Gloating
Here's a post from early Day 2 that really got my attention and made me look more closely at Clown. What we see is a scumtell called 'Gloating'. Weird name, but it's when scum try to blend in by letting everyone know that they're in pain from the night's events, too. Sometimes they overact to let everyone know that this guy must be innocent....look how upset he is.
As far as acting, the thing that get's my attention is the swearing. It's not natural. Before I had kids, I swore like a truckdriver (when not at work)...boy the words just rolled off the tongue. But in written correspondence, swearing just doesn't flow...and to have to take the extra step to asterisk out any swearing means it really not flowing. It has to be intentional, right? Once again seems to be letting everyone know he's innocent...he's got to be, to be so mad.
Also complains to RB for not reassigning the DR role, which I wouldn't really expect RB to do. And I don't know that Clown does either. I've included a post below from after the LChap nonsense (re: former vs. current detective) began. In it he claims that if RB did reassign roles that he'd quit and never play again. Which is it?
**** IT **** IT **** IT
Ok so the chances of getting a mafia today were slim.. I've already covered that in prior posts. But come on RB.. You couldn't reassign the Dr role???!!!! Your going to make us suffer because he couldn't get himself into this thread and play.. Come On..!!!
With ILB being the hit was this a diversionary tactic or was it that one of her friends didn't want her around because they felt she could find them out.. Is it like I said earlier that the mafia is laying low and watching us kill ourselves trying to find them? Is EMO a DON?? I mean he did pop in just in time to save himself...???
Question questions...
Oh BS.. If he did that I'd leave the game and not play again.. As a moderator you are allowed some latitude but that is going to far..
That's what I've got on Clown...just observations, not necessarily a case, yet. It's been hastily pulled together so I hope it makes sense, but I wanted to get it in before nightfall.
