I decided to make a log of the progress on my 65 reef. So far I have stained the stand, setup my DIY sump, added a skimmer, glass canopy, 60lbs aragonite sand and ~20lbs of base rock.

65 gallon reef ready AGA
20 G Sump with refugium
Coralife Super Skimmer 125
Visitherm 200Watt Heater

The future stock list so far is
2-Ocellaris Clowns
Dwarf Angel (Most likely Flame Angel)
Royal Gramma
McCosker's Flasher or Carpenter's Wrasse
Soft Corals
I'm still unsure about the cleanup crew but would like some peppermint shrimp. I also ordered a powercompact 2x96W fixture for lighting. Hopefully will begin to add liverock soon. Now that the sand has settled I have removed the filter floss from the sump.

That looks pretty nice!

I like the nassarius snails for my sandbed. They're funny little critters. They come up at feeding time, and sometimes work the glass. When the decide to turn around the shells pull them off the glass and the plop to the sand. Then it's crazy the way they flip themselves upright again.

What is the black sealant in the sump? Is it saltwater safe?

The black sealant is black silicone. Im sure its marine safe and I believe its made by all glass. Not the prettiest job but it doesnt leak and its hidden in the stand.

Cool, hate to see a great project go south for something as simple as sealant. Color is no biggie like you say, function first on the sump.

Yup, thanks for the heads up anyways. Any other suggestions? Temp is at 78 deg F and specific gravity at 1.024 according to my swing arm hydrometer.

I have the same tank. I love it. It is the perfect size IMO. It's small enough to be quite manageable and big enough that you can keep a decent amount of stuff in it. Mine is an SPS dominated mixed reef and has been running for 14 mos. Good luck and GO SLOW!!
