I have a ten gallon tank and so far i have in it:

3 Tiger Barbs
2 Long-Finned Rosy Barbs
1 Chinese Algae Eater
1 Unidentified Transparent Fish (not very big)

I want to get 3 mickey mouse platys and a gourami
is this ok or do i have to pick one or the other?

its not great...the tiger barbs are generally pretty aggressive...best advice is have upwards of 7 or so so that they just annoy each other, but your tank is probably too small to do that.

would be good to identify that transparent fish first too...could be a glass catfish or something.

your chinese alagae eater may be a pain too as it grows.

edit : I see someone has ID'd the glassfish on another thread

first off, the tiger barbs, algae eater and glass fish need to go,

Barbs are way too aggressive, the rosys are iffy

that algae eater will grow too big and start sucking the slime coat off other fish (needless to say, is unhealthy),

that glass fish needs tank mates, and depending on what it is, a bigger tank.

one gourami and 3 platys would be a more appropriate stocking.

pretty much your whole stock right now is a bit too large..... rosy barbs get 5 inches long as adults, tiger barbs get about 2 1/2 inches each, but need large schools so they'd be inappropriate, and chinese algae eaters grow to be about 10" long as adults, and as mentioned previously can get aggressive towards smaller fish. the glasssfish, however, will be fine IMO" as long as you get him some companions. while some say they do better in brackish water, IME they are fine in FW and are naturally found far upstream in total FW in their natural habitat. if you get 3-4 more glass fish, you could add either 3 more platies or a DWARF gourami and call it stocked.

in general try and find out if the store will accept returns of fish that don't work out.

Also always try and find out as much as you can about the fish before you buy them so you can be sure that a) you want to keep them and b) your tank is appropriate.

How would i rid of the Glassfish I bought him from Petco, would they take it back? If not what do i do to get rid of it?
You could try our Classifieds section so people can take it.:)
