First Betta Fish & Q's About Setup

Oh okay, I see. So this ammonia I should be adding to establish the tank, is this the Dechlorinator you had mentioned?

Sorry for asking so many Q's, haha. :lipssealedsmilie:

You're looking for the pure ammonia which is available in pharmacies. It's different from dechlorinator which simply binds chlorine and chloramine (depends on the brand you are using) to prevent inflicting harm on the fish. Some people though use raw shrimps, etc.:perv:

Now at the petco in my area they sell plants that are already grown in tanks, like bambo and such, would those also help? I'll prob look around and get the Pure Ammonia then. :)

I think the bamboo will be okay with that tank size as it won't be submerged anyway.

Coolies! So I can have a bamboo in there while I'm cycling the tank?
It's possible but could slow down the cycling process as the plant tries to consume ammonia needed by the bacteria.

i see that you are using distilled water but this is dangerous to use on any animal or even people. distilled water is filtered of all its minerals and electrolytes and other components. when you drink it, by simple diffusion it will bind to the minerals in your body to balance everything out to equilibrium. essentially, it is robbing you of needed elements. do not use it for fish or for any living thing. just use spring water or any water that is natural and clean.

Okay, so now I shouldnt use the distilled water, gah. Is there any particular brand of spring water thats best?

No, just regular spring water is fine. You can also just use tap water with dechlorinator, as others have mentioned. You might want to test your tap water to make sure it has no ammonia or nitrites, and a safe PH level before you use it though.

I feel more comfortable using fresh bottled water rather than our tap water for some odd reason, lol. It seems like it would be alot easier to do it that way i guess. Okay, so any spring water, cool! Thanks so much you guys! :D
