lighting, how long to leave on each day?

see my tanks in my pics, no special lighting just single bulb strips, one tank does have 2 light strip. how long does one need to leave the lights on? I have java moss and fern in my tank.

I leave mine on from 8-10 hours a day.

why a timer? I just turn it on at 7:00 when I get up and turn it off at 7:00 at night.

you dont have to have a timer but are you always there at 7am and 7pm? the one in my room always was off. nothing stable about it. some times it would get 6 hours some times 12 hours. one of the reasons why i switched it to my rack.

my little one gets up and goes directly to the tank, on it goes by 7:00 and I turn them all off by 7:00 we are not always acurate, some days there on 10 hours some much longer.

I go 8 hours a day, but on a timer...I think they like the routine.

of course now they also get my crazy disco LED nightlights but that's a whole other thing.
