another item i am goning to upgrade very soon. i have seen a few on ebay as that is where most of you advise to start the search, what exactly do i need in an RO system? i see there is not too much difference in them, i only need it for my water change on my 46 gallon and for top offs. thanks again

I recently ordered one of these dual inline tds meters:

I will have one meter hooked to the raw water and the other hooked to the final output. This will hopefully give me an idea of my units performance and a heads up on when to swap out the membrane..

Suggestion: Because your membrane will be destroyed by chlorine and your carbon block gets used up, it would be far more useful for you to put one in the line to the RO membrane and NOT in the supply line as you really don't care about your supply - you care about not letting any chlorine get to your membrane.

Monitor the system output to protect your tank and note the DI canister functionality, and the other monitors your carbon filter functionality protecting and showing when to change the carbon/prefilters.
