Hey, I am in the process of purchasing 4 120 gal. tanks but the guy broke the plastic center support out of one of the tanks while moving it. Anyone know how much trouble that will be to fix? I'm not sure of the brand and won't know until I actually get there to get them...

Thanks for any help....

What I would do is remove the broken section and take a piece of acrylic and plastic wing nuts or a strong epoxy glue/weld and put the brace back on. I wouldn't operate the tank without that center brace for structural reasons. It actually looks exactly like my 75 which I think is an older AGA.

When you say put the brace back on with epoxy do you simply mean to put the broken piece back in place and then glue it back in place, or that I should completely remove the center piece and replace it with the acrylic? If you mean to replace the center piece could you point me in the right direction to see how to do this?

Also here are pics of the tanks.....I can get all four for $275, does that sound like a decent deal?

Thanks again....

I can't point you in a direction of how, its just something I would do.. I've mended broken tanks before. And yes I personally would remove the rest of the broken piece and then put a piece of clear 3/8" acrylic and probably 2 or 3 inches wide back in its spot. Even if you don't do anything with it your still getting a steal.. 360 or 480 gallons for 275.. Thats less than a buck a gallon. I'd buy them as long as they all held water. Heck I'd probably buy them even if they didn't as long as they didn't have any structural issues with the glass and repair them if they didn't hold water. But thats just me I like to DIY stuff.

With how old they are however before you try and use them I would also replace the silicone on the inside joints. (don't take the tank apart) just razor out the part in the corner and then replace it all.

Thanks for the help....as far as cutting out the old silicone, would I just remove as much as I could then simply re apply the new silicone or would I need to make sure I dont leave any old silicone behind and clean it or something before re sealing? Thanks again for your help..

I have purchased replacement top sections ,like what you have broken, from my LFS before. They usually don't stock them but they can order them for you.

cool.. good to know. I've always just kludged something together.. But then I live in the middle of no-where. I'm lucky my LPS have fish ;)
