There are so many power filters out there, and with so many power filters, there are so many power filter cartridges that it is sometimes confusing choosing which one you need. I see people that come in PSP all the time and ask me what filter cartridge they need for their filter. After asking several questions I can usually figure it out. Maybe this will shed some light.


Hagen AquaClear Power Filters

These power filters, due to their unique design, do not require filter cartridges, they require seperate inserts. Typically, if you can remember the proper color that was on the original box stating the gph and model number of the filter, you can get the correct inserts rather easily. The following are the colors:

AquaClear 20, 100, Mini Purple
AquaClear 30, 150 Orange
AquaClear 50, 200 Red
AquaClear 70, 300 Green
AquaClear 110, 500 Blue

Elite HUSH

These are one of the models that Hgen manufactures that requires filter cartridges. Due to their unique design, not just any cartridge or sponge will fit.

Elite HUSH 5 Orange
Elite HUSH 10 Green
Elite HUSH 20 Magenta
Elite HUSH 35 Red
Elite HUSH 55 Purple


Marineland Power Filters


Since the Penguin filters are the most common, I'll start there.

Don't mean to be a nudge, but several online sellers offer their own generic filter carts for a number of the filters listed. I can find carts for Emperor and Penguin as well as sponges for AquaClears that are not Marineland or Hagen.

It took a while to throw together because I had to look at each individual filter insert/cartridge to view the color of the packaging. Well worth it, tho!!

True, there are many. I only listed the manufacturer inserts so that when someone goes to buy them they know they will fit, and if they see a generic cartridge that will fit their model, they will know.

Example, there is an Imagine Bio3 cartridge for the Penguin 330. I know that I need the rite size C, but I am unsure of the model. I can use the model numbers on the original to see if the generic will fit.

I could not really post the generic as they don't have colors or specific numbers to go by, just the model, so it would have been rather hard. Nice pointer to everyone, tho!!

Just to let everyone know, the Imagine Bio3 cartridges ROCK! They Blow away the Rite-size replacements for the emperor power filters! Check them out, and if anyone needs more info on these just ask! Peace.....
