Ich or Columnaris??

I have a really difficult time diagnosing these kinds of things and my camera sucks and I can't get a decent picture.

I haven't noticed it scratching, it's like grayish white little patches. They're small so I dunno if it's considered "dots" or "patches".

The odd things is that only one fish in the whole tank has it. It's an angelfish. My dad has two but only one of them has this. None of the other fish have this either, there's catfish, tetras, etc.

He hasn't cleaned the tank in a while and he doesn't quarantine fish b4 he puts them in. But I don't think he's gotten any new ones in a while.

Any help, please?
 
What are your water parameters? Temperature? Tank maintenance schedule? Post the exact schedule. Any pictures? And with the way you describe your situation, ich can safely be cross out.
 
From the sound of your description, sounds like columnaris to me. I may be wrong, but the grey sounds like it would be.
 
Sounds like a body fungus. You can treat with a product called Marycn and Marycn 2. They are meant to be treated with at the same time. Follow the directions to the t and make sure you do a water change after the treatment. It would be advisable to get water test readings first though before you go any further.

There is no schedule. It's my dad's tank. He doesn't do level checks or anything. My mom has been treating the fish for ich (thanks for letting me know!) and my dad basically wasn't too interested...

Would Melafix work? I have a big bottle of that.

Melafix will not work. For ich, use salt as a treatment. What is your mom treating the fish?
 
If you have aquarium salt you can treat with that and raising the temp. in the tank during the treatment.

I personally think the best course of action is to do small water changes .
we need to see where this tank is. it sounds like it has been somewhat neglected or old school info about tanks and maintenance.
I suspect part or most of the problem may stem from the water being out of whack.
ich is very easy to distinguish from may other problems.
there is one other problem that may show similar Sx to ich but it is a rare viral problem.

get a reading on water parameters and set up a maintenace schedule..

if this tank is suffering from OTS you may see issues like fungus , bacterial infections etc..adding meds to poor water will not help much
 
melafix won't hurt anything.

im pretty sure pimafix might be a better alternative, though i like to use them together.


first you should figure out what you're treating though of course.
